Texas Rodeo

The state sport in Texas is a Rodeo adopted in 1997.

This fun fact is a new one to me. I would have said Friday night football.

And I would have been wrong!

There are many events that test the skills and speed of cowboys and cowgirls.

Team roping where the header ropes the horns or around the neck while the heeler ropes the hind feet.

Steer wrestling where the rider drops off his horse and grabs the horns to knock it off balance.

Saddle and bareback bronc riding where you hold on as best you can for eight seconds.

Bull Riding is holding onto the rope with one hand and your other hand in the air for eight seconds.

Barrell racing is when the horse and rider run a cloverleaf pattern in the shortest amount of time.

Let’s not forget the Rodeo Clown who stands ready to draw a horse or a bull away so the rider doesn’t get hurt.

One of my favorite things to watch is the mutton bustin’ where children are placed on the back of a sheep and try to hold on the longest.

Going to a rodeo is a great experience that everyone should try at least once.
