State Fair of Texas

The State Fair of Texas

The State Fair of Texas is located on 277 acres in Dallas and it runs for 24 successive days from the end of September to mid-October each year.

It has been around since 1886 and has everything from food, live music and shows to a rodeo (state sport of Texas) and a midway with a 212-ft. Texas Star® Ferris wheel.

One year, my husband and I met my parents there to spend a couple of days.

They talked me into riding the Ferris wheel and it got stuck at the very top.

I was afraid of heights and they had to physically restrain me from crawling out of the car and climbing down.

Probably won’t ever live that down.

However, the food was something I could really get behind because I love to eat.

Funnel cakes were one of my favorites but a corny dog and cotton candy ran a close second.

And you wouldn’t believe the fried foods that you could buy such as fried coke, fried Oreos and fried avocados.

Okay, there was also fried things that just didn’t sound good like fried butter or fried cotton candy bacon (not everything is better with bacon) on a stick or deep fried Pho.

Shopping at the State Fair of Texas was an experience because they sold items from soup and drink mixes to cowboy boots and earrings.

As you walked around, you could catch live music from many different stages with many different genre’s from Texas musical artists for free.

Yes, I did say free.

There was even something for football fans as the Cotton Bowl was located in the middle of Fair Park.

The long time rivalry between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners has been played there since 1929.

There are so many things to see and do for everyone and you should try to experience it if you are ever near Dallas during the Texas State Fair.

Grab a turkey leg and some roasted corn and wash it down with a cold beer or trail-ade.
