Sweet Romance Book Review

Refuge in a Storm by P.A. Bumpass is an amazing clean romance located in the town of River Bend. Elyse is a single mother who feels taken advantage of by her family and friends in the midst of suffering a loss. She packs her car and her son, Aiden, and heads toward River Bend. Her parents took her and her sister and best friend, Cassie, when they were kids.

Jake is a hardworking man with a big heart who lives in River Bend. He rescues Elyse and Aiden during a storm and the attraction he feels is immediate. Something he hadn’t felt in many years.

Elyse and Jake are both stubborn and prideful which causes friction between them but there is a strong romantic pull. Elyse has to deal with her baggage from home and then a bully who wants Elyse to leave Riverbend.

Jake is protective of Elyse and Aiden even though they just met. His best friend, Travis, tells him to be careful but he is happy for his friend and glad Jake is smiling again. Jake helps Elyse take care of Aiden who he calls “little man.”

Miss Penny is the landlord of the cottage that Elyse has rented for the summer and Jake’s mother-in-law. Miss Penny loves Aiden and plays matchmaker as the attraction between Jake and Elyse grows.

Elyse and Jake go through ups and downs but in the end, they are perfectly suited for each other. The find the love and family they both wanted.

What I liked most about this book

At the end of each page, I couldn’t wait to go to the next.

Strong characters who are persistent and prideful but persevere to make their dreams a reality.

The beginning of the story in the middle of a scene with Elyse being pulled in many directions that many of us can relate to.

Miss Penny conspires to set Elyse and Jake up as a couple.

Jake is so exited about their first date that he hits his thumb with the hammer instead of the nail.

This book was a joy to read, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a wholesome romance.

Bonus: Check out her second book in the series, Shelter in the Storm
