With all the craziness these days, everyone is looking for extra time each day.
The last meeting of your work day ran over so you are an hour late getting home. There is an event you want to attend but the house needs to be cleaned. That article is due and it is already past bedtime. You want to watch a television show or movie but it is time to start dinner. You forgot to pick up a gift for your friend’s birthday tomorrow and you are home in your pajamas.
Has any of this happened to you? You wonder if there is any way to get another hour of time each day. Well, there are things you can do to help ease your stress and get a little more time out of your day. Below are my top five time savers.
I don’t know about you but it takes me at least one hour to complete my grocery shopping for the week. You have to fight parking and other customers and it takes time you could be using for something else. I began looking for grocery delivery and found instacart.
You download the app on your smart phone, set up your payment option and put in your zip code for a list of stores to order from. You fill your shopping cart and receive $10 off your first delivery. In addition, for every person you refer, you each get $10 off your next delivery.
This delivery service has been an enormous time-saver. I usually order the bulk of my groceries on Saturday or Sunday. However, I can also order on my way home from work and my groceries will be there shortly after I arrive. I have what I need and didn’t have to spend time shopping myself.
I don’t like to spend time cleaning when there are other things I could be doing. My husband and I have had a maid come in for many years now and this is the one luxury that would be hard for me to give up. In addition to the time savings, I hate to clean.
Over the years, we tried cleaning services and private maids we heard of by word of mouth. Private maids win hands down for us. In fact, we have had the same maid for over ten years. She comes every other week and performs all the deep cleaning chores (bathrooms, kitchen, vacuuming, etc.) and washes and changes the sheets on the bed.
She has a key to our apartment so she comes in and cleans on her specified day and it is awesome to walk in and everything is sparkling. We perform small tasks in between her visits but having all the big stuff done is a huge time saver.
Watching Your Favorite Shows/Movies
Most everyone has a favorite television show or movie but it seems to come on at the most inopportune time. During the day when you are at work or while you are cooking dinner. This is where a digital video recorder (DVR) comes in to play. Most companies that provide cable service have DVR’s available to rent or buy.
My husband and I love to watch “The Voice”. However, his hours are long and they vary so I set the DVR to record the entire series and we watch each episode later in the evening or on a different day. In addition, you can fast forward through the commercials so the actual show takes less time to watch. In fact, it is harder to watch any show with commercials after using the DVR.
Do you want to cook (and clean) when you get home after working all day? Me either. There are a couple of things my husband and I do to save time during the week (and occasionally on weekends).
First, my husband loves to grill no matter what the weather. He grills on Saturday and Sunday and makes sure there is plenty of leftovers for the entire week. This allows us to heat the food up quickly with little clean up.
Second is food delivery or pickup. There are times we don’t want to eat leftovers (me more than him) so we call in an order to a restaurant with the kind of food we do want.
Sometimes I stop and pick it up on my way home from work and other times we have the food delivered. This saves time on cooking and cleaning. Even better!
You get home, change clothes and settle in for the evening. As you are starting to relax, you realize tomorrow is your best friend’s birthday and you forgot to stop and get her/him a gift. Are you going to get dressed and go to the store? I think not! You log into Amazon Prime Now and start searching.
You find the perfect gift, a birthday card and wrapping paper and it can be delivered in a hour. Now you sit back and wait for your order in the comfort of your own home. They deliver your order and you take the gift to work like you had it all along.
